We descend the locks into Berkhamsted in leisurely fashion
Arriving in the town centre in bright, warm sunshine,
we moor opposite the children's playground.
...exploring the ancient backstreets,
the huge parish Church of St Peter,
and the amazing chemist shop from a bygone age.
We strolled out to find the boatyard...
It was now a very attractive house,
with several other modern buildings adjacent to it.
On Tuesday, we set off at last.
NB Renaissance joined us through the locks as far as Winkwell...
...we stopped for the night at a good spot just above Boxmoor Lock.
Hemel Hempstead looks so much better from the canal!
On now...
to the gorgeous Grove Park on the outskirts
of the not-at-all-gorgeous Watford.
Through Cassiobury Park,
and mooring in the late afternoon not far below Cassio Bridge Lock.
We were glad to get away the next morning.
We spent pretty much the whole day alongside the rivers Gade and Colne
...moving on a short way afterwards to the canalside Tesco.

We finished the day above Denham Deep Lock
Our journey on from there took us through Uxbridge and Cowley.
Bull's Bridge spans the entrance to the Paddington Arm
...an unusual craft pushed a houseboat out
The tree-lined urban setting was very pleasant
